Despair is a five-track suite of songs inspired by the darkest and bitterest of human emotion. Drawing from both classical orchestration and heavy metal, it journeys through depression, anger, fear, grief and ultimately despair, painting musical landscapes as a monument to darkness.

Despair began as a follow-up to my debut self-titled album (yet unreleased), which was a concept album centered around an abandoned gothic mansion - from which the name Satis is drawn. Whilst the original Satis album was structured like a classical symphony (four movements, including a slow second and scherzo-like third), it was texturally much more inspired by early Opeth and My Dying Bride. Despair, on the other hand, draws far more from classical symphonic orchestration, with less of a focus on classical structure.

Satis was born in the suburbs of Boston, MA, although he left there when he was two. He spent most of his childhood split between the soaring peaks of the Swiss Alps and the dark industrialism of northern England, and their scenery has left an indelible mark on his psyche and creativity. ... more
